How To Re-Build The Lost Community Around Your Blog?

Last week I wrote about the blogging mistakes I made. That included points on building a blog community around you. Now a reader asked me a question related to the point – that how can he rebuild that community?

Starting from bits. You stopped blogging and now you want to resume. But you see, there is no one reading your blog anymore nor is anyone sharing it. You want the community around your blog back.

You cannot re-build a lost buzz around your blog. You have to get it back. Buzz around your blog needs readers, advertisers, admirers and social savviest, commentators. Here’s some tips to drive them back and also get new ones, too.

Use the Facebook Power

Do you have a Facebook page for your blog? If you don’t, make one. And if you have one, let’s target some members to it. Usually start with inviting all your friends to join the Facebook. Use the small “Suggest To Friends” link on your page. Invite all your Facebook friends because only some of them care about checking the Invites page.

Next thing you will do is tell them that you’re alive. When you have enough members, post a message on your page. Next, send every member of your Page a message that you are resuming your blog. Add a small reason, small it must be. You can even add a bait, that depends on you.

That will create enough buzz on Facebook for you.

Why Leave Twitter Alone?

Have you been off on Twitter too for a while? If so, tell people you’re back. Track tweets, start conversions over it. Don’t shout you resumed your blog, just let it go. If your conversation is worth a reply, you have an addition to your community. ;)

This post is about how to build your “lost” community so I won’t go in detail about traffic building from Twitter.

Blog That You’re Back

Most important thing – blog that you are back. You still have RSS subscribers. Wake them up! To add the spice, do a giveaway or a free e-book download.

E-Book is okay but a Giveaway? Yes. Anything. A software license to a Pro account of any web service like Flickr and Rapidshare. The best way to build the buzz is using the Twitter way. Make it something like “Retweet and Win” contest. That thing goes viral, brings new addition to your community as well.

What Else To Do?

There are many other small things you can do. Most of them are traffic builders but if done properly, revives your blog community.

  1. Guest blog on your most closest online friends’ blogs. Mention you have resumed in your blog and a link.
  2. Comment on blogs, as always the golden rule.
  3. Converse on IM with fellow bloggers.
  4. E-Mail bloggers you know, ask them blogging tips and how to resume. Believe me, that helps. ;)

That would be enough. Now the only thing you have to do is keep blogging so that the buzz isn’t lost again!
